Sweet Jams for Working
Threw together a handful of my favorite playlists/albums to work to as a gift for
fandomtrees and figured some of you other nerds might also be interested. They're all Spotify links, because that's what I use to listen to music most often, but you can probably find any of the songs on these playlists elsewhere. Particularly the albums are likely available in full through like, YouTube or what have you.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Original Motion Picture Soundtrack — a nice blend of classic hits like Roberta Flack's "Compared to What" and Louis Prima's "Five Months, Two Weeks, Two Days" combined with instrumental score pieces and probably my favorite film soundtrack of all time
'This Is No BS! Brass Band' Spotify Playlist — if you like marching band music with a dance-y twist, this band is the bomb and this playlist is a nice sampling of their sound; features a combination of fantastic original pieces like "3AM Bounce," interspersed with covers of popular tunes such as a-ha's "Take On Me" and Rush's "Tom Sawyer"
'Is It New Wave?' Spotify Playlist — starts off strong with Blondie's "Heart of Glass" and then guides you through a landscape of alt-pop hits that may or may not be new wave, featuring a lot of Talking Heads, The Cure, Joy Division, The Smiths, DEVO, and other familiar old-school names
'70s FM Radio Rider' Spotify Playlist — another 'oldies but goodies' sort of playlist, this is basically just a bunch of radio hits from one of the greatest eras of music; even if you weren't around in the 70s (as I was not), you'll probably recognize a bunch of these songs from various media over the years, and so, so many of them are catchy little earworms that are fun to work to
'If It Ain't Baroque...' aka Baroque 50: Spotify Picks Playlist — 100% classical from top to bottom, from what is arguably the greatest classical music era of all time; featuring Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, and one of my personal faves, Antionio Bertali, among many other beloved composers, this is classical music designed for listening and improvisation and it's super fun if you're into classical
'Essential Alternative' Spotify Playlist — if you're in the mood for some music that's right in the rearview mirror, this is a playlist that features a lot of my personal faves from my high school/early college days (being the early-mid 2000s) and has a nice recently-nostalgic radio feel
'This Is The Front Bottoms' Spotify Playlist — if you enjoy the slightly whiney, pop-meets-indie/alt-rock sound, it doesn't really get better than The Front Bottoms, imo, and this playlist is just a bunch of their best songs across various albums all jammed together
Stardew Valley (Original Game Soundtrack) — instrumental music with a digital feel, this is a great one for nice lazy background jams
Crumb on Spotify — okay, not technically a playlist or one specific album, but Crumb is soft, slow, modern psychedelic pop/rock that's incredibly soothing to listen to; they feature on a handful of playlists like 'Modern Psychedelia' and 'Dreampop' and I really love them for chilling out
Purity Ring's "Shrines" Album — dreamy electropop that's easy to zone out to
The Distillers' "Coral Fang" Album — catchy, delightful punk-pop with a husky voiced female vocalist and one of my fave albums of all time
'This Is ABBA' Spotify Playlist — I feel like this one should go without saying, but I will go on record and say that it's almost impossible to have a bad day when you're listening to 70s Swedish pop sensation ABBA
'This Is Anamanaguchi' Spotify Playlist — instrumental, dancey chiptune for days when you have a lot to get done and you need fast, fun beats to keep you moving
