Hello, everyone!
I'm Tec and/or Oz, depending on how you know me. (Either moniker is fine, it's whatever you prefer.) I'm fairly new to Dreamwidth, and always looking for new friends!
I got sucked into the whole journal platform again on account of the HBOWar fandoms. If you're not familiar, that umbrella currently encompasses the three HBO miniseries, Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, and The Pacific and will expand to include Apple TV+'s Masters of the Air when it comes out. (I am the MOST excited about MotA.)
I mostly only write in BoB and TP, of the three existing fandoms, because I have deep and abiding love for period fic and have always been into WWII as a historical period. (Fuck Nazis and war is terrible, but also the time period itself is pretty fascinating for a variety of reasons.) You may also recognize my name from The Magnificent Seven (2016) fandom, where I was largely active before now, as well as a little bit in Suits and Grimm. I consume a lot of different media on a lot of different platforms and read a pretty unholy amount of fan fiction, haha. Likewise, I'm always happy to make content creator friends and do beta-reading or editing for those who need it, regardless of whether I'm active in your fandom or not. You can find my writing over here on AO3.
My non-fannish hobbies include screaming at the television during hockey season—I'm a big Arizona Coyotes fan, though alas I am too far off to see them play in person most of the time—and learning about bees. I worked for an artisanal honey company for a time and was lucky enough to lend a hand with their hives and learn a ton about honey bees in the process. From there it was only a matter of time before I started stumbling into information about other types of bees (bumble, mason, leaf-cutter, etc.) and the entire breadth of bee existence has become something of a passion of mine. I long to have hives of my own, one day, though I'm currently in the suburbs in an area that's not especially friendly to urban beekeeping so that's definitely a problem for future me.
I do a lot of non-fiction and history reading, mostly about WWII and the American frontier/"Wild West," though I have a bit of a soft spot for Cold War era spy history as well. I don't read a ton of professionally published fiction nowadays though I'm working on making that a more regular habit. My favorite author, without a doubt, is Terry Pratchett and I revisit his oeuvre frequently. I'm a particular fan of Monstrous Regiment and the Tiffany Aching series, though I've yet to meet a Pratchett novel I don't like.
I am a queer person in both gender and sexuality. Whatever pronouns are fine. Folks most commonly use she/hers because I read very much as a woman but I consider myself more along the lines of genderqueer/gender-nonconforming. I'm not a particularly kinky person but I support the rights of individuals to engage in whatever kinds of consensual sex they desire, and appreciate the use of cerebral spaces like fan fiction as a safe and welcoming environment for people to explore things they wouldn't otherwise engage with in real life.
I have a major soft spot for fiction involving werewolves and shapeshifters and dream of one day getting my fantasy/western series off the ground. I'm also proud to run the
heavyartillery fandom community, which welcomes content from the aforementioned HBOWar properties.
I have a degree in comic books—that is a true fact!—and used to be very heavily invested in DC. I have a modest but steadily growing collection of Robins, as the characters who've worn the mantle are my favorites, with the exception of Damian Wayne who I hate with the fiery passion of a thousand suns for a variety of reasons. Jason Todd is my ultimate, and his truest of all loves with Roy Harper makes me want to cry big fat tears of weepy joy. I don't read a ton of comics anymore, because it's an expensive hobby and I would rather blow my money on history books or dice sets to pad the disgustingly extensive collection I use for D&D.
I hope that some of y'all find common ground here in this weird, lengthy, stream-of-consciousness introduction I've provided! Can't wait to meet more of you!
