thrillingdetectivetales: Davie and Alan from the play, Kidnapped, kissing on the moors. Both men's faces are obscured. Davie has a hand on Alan's cheek. (Leckie grabbing books)

This evening, as I was going through my entire library to put together the reading list I just shared, I finished up Rainbow Rowell's Wayward Son, the second in her "this young magical hero is definitely not that boy with the lightning scar" YA series. I really enjoy Rowell's world-building in this series. It's very obviously the work of someone who encountered the Franchise That Shall Not Be Named and went, "Okay but what if it was better in basically every conceivable way?" and so is right up my alley vis-รก-vis areas of interest.

Most of the review is behind a cut considering I can't talk about it without mentioning major spoilers for its predecessor. )

If you're a fan of young adult literature with an urban fantasy bent, I cannot recommend Wayward Son and its predecessor, Carry On, anywhere near enough. Check them out, let me know what you think!
